Getting Starlinked

#1

Post by AstroBee »

As many of you know, Starlink is launching more and more satellites so much so now that a new term has been created for when you are imaging and get photobombed by Starlink satellites. It's called getting Starlinked.
Most of us are not happy with the thought but for kicks, I decided that this evening I would attempt to purposely get Starlinked. Our local club is having a virtual star party tonight so I checked out Stellarium and see that I have a perfect opportunity but it happens just before we go live at 7:30 pm local time. So I'm going to image the event and share it with the group when we go live at 7:30 pm. (Weather permitting of course.) Here's what the Stellarium prediction looks like so we'll see how accurate it is in real-time. After our live show is over this evening I'll upload the images created from the Starlink pass to this post.

Graeme,

While recording the Horsehead I did not see anything on the sensor. I was using my Ha filter.
When I repositioned to the Orion nebula (using Luminance filter) the pass was already halfway through the sensor frame and extremely faint. I guess that's why they didn't show up on the Ha filter. Also, I think the timing was such that the satellites were not actually lit (or barely) by the sun so that made them even fainter. Anyway, the results were such a dud that I didn't think to come back and share anything.

The Heavens Above web site shows a starlink graphic that differentiates between visible and non visible. They blink out at at about 21.15 here.

You going to have another go?

Regards

Graeme

Oh yeah, hoping for another chance on my next setup. Clouds and high winds here lately...
