How do you capture Uranus and Neptune?

For those of you who image these planets do you use a lot of power and capture a video to stack as you would with Jupiter or Saturn? Or do you back off stack a series of frames as you would with a DSO? I've never really thought about it much, but Uranus is reaching opposition and I am curious. This has been my first year really trying to shoot planets, so much of it is new to me.

I have never seen any images of Uranus or Neptune of any visual meaning from any forum only from Nasa

i've had a crack it with low/average results. havn't done too much reading up on about imaging it . they are very dim and require max gain settings ... for any detail ,you'll need ir filters ..

going max gain shows a ball of specks,very hard to focus on such a noisy image , it's best to focus on a star or another planet thats bright with a lower gain setting then move to the dimmer planets ..

edit: i forgot to awsner, yes you image these planets in video format like saturn,mars,jupiter ectt.turbulent air will ruin the tiny details on the small image of the planet.

I was trying to work out what camera chris go uses, he just upgaded from a mono back to colour, apparently his new camera is far better in ir then the older mono, pretty sure his old camera was a asi 290mm or the qhy 290. something cool i found out is that you can image mono with a colour camera and the ir wavelengths go through the rgb bayer so you get full resolution and photons hit on the whole chip .

That was the Canon 600D. Wouldn't mind having another go at it with the new camera.

Definitely stacked frames from a video file next time.

I think recording a video of such small and dim objects is beyond my skill level at this time. I've imaged a few DSOs, but those were with my 80ED, not my C11. My tracking on that big thing is still sloppy. I may just try for a couple of good snapshots this time. Since it is not likely that I'll come away with surface features a quick single shot may be able to pick up a colored disk. I may give it a try if the weather ever clears up again.

I noticed that when I brightened up the picture, but I didn't think it was possible so I figured it was just some dim stars in the background.

Yup, moons. When I shoot these two planets, the moons are all I go for. I find a few seconds will suffice for all 5 'classic' moons of Uranus, but Miranda is hard, and Triton is probably the easiest of the bunch. Did Nereid a couple years back, but it requires planning and is more of a DSO than a moon at 19th magnitude.
