when to move from 32 bit to 16 bit in photoshop.

Post by Jockinireland »

I currently use APP and then either startools or photoshop for further processing of my DSLR images

startools is great as it opens the 32bit Fits without even thinking about it.

I have just got Fitsplug to allow me to open Fits in Photoshop really to just save me from having to save duplicate images in stretched and non stretched tiff etc. I am rapidly running out of disk space because I save EVERYTHING

But I'm a bit confused as to when I should change from 32bit to 16 bit in photoshop. should I stretch the image first (I sometimes use a arcsin action which seems to keep good colour).

Also when I make the change which HDR setting should I use as I seem to see conflicting suggestions on either "Exposure and gamma" or "Local Adaption"

Either way I do it (and also independant of using the arcsin action or not) I seem to be ending up with a more stretched and noisy image than if I just save in APP as a 16bit Tiff.

Help!!

Thanks and Rgds

David

For me, it's the very first thing I do. For me, nothing works correctly until I have downsampled to 16 bits.

Cheers,
