Anyone using one of these? If so, what would be a good diagonal replacement for the plastic one that comes with it?

Any name brand diagonal will be an improvement over the stock diagonal.
The GSO offering is one of the cheaper well made ones.

Yes, replace with any decent 90° diagonal, GSO is a decent one.

Also a 32mm Plossl EP will give you a decent wide FOV.

Does yours have the tracking mount?

Sounds like the GSO is what I need, do you have a link to it? Yes, it does have the tracking mount and I ordered a hand controller for it also, though not certain what extra that does yet. I figured that if I ordered my wife one she might like it also...that was before I found out that they actually make a pink scope. I should have ordered that. She collects and shoots pink guns of all things. I also ordered a right angle finder for it to replace the one on it. What brand of 32mm Plossl EP would you suggest?

That's what I like, cheap and well made!

A GSO Plossl will also work, again the cheapest price with good quality.

There are many shops around the country, personally I like to support as close to home as possible.

Since the USA is large Agena Astro sells both of these.

Some have threaded ends where it connects to the scope, some just slide in.
Then we can help pick one for you.

Thanks. I will look tonight and see if it is threaded or not. Lionel, being traditionally 3 rail, is not what I do, but I did have some Lionel stuff before my brief HO adventure. Heavy metal engines NEVER came off the tracks, no matter what. But HO made me appreciate 2 rail scale equipment, but for actually building models HO scale is pretty darn small. Pretty easy for those little parts to flick off and fly through the air and go into the future someplace. You can look and look for the part you dropped and never find it, and then come back the nest day or two and there it will be laying right there. My theory is that those little parts bounce into the future and until you catch up to them in time you will never find them. If the attachment works, this is the latest model I did. I 3d printed the masters, then made a mold of the master with RTV rubber and cast the parts in 2 part urethane and assembled the car. I sent a couple to a friend who put details on and painted and lettered them and the photo is the result.

It's probably just a slide in, but want to make sure.

I made scale box cars for Lionel, the LionScale line. They were adaptable for 2 rail scale

I have seen where people convert some of the Lionel and MTH to scale. Never have done any of that myself though. I am more of a model builder than a operator though.

Way cool. I was in HO for a long time; I wasn't aware Lionel made scale. I wish I had kept the O27 3-rail stuff from when I was a kid.

Ok, the photos show the ends of the adapter the diagonal slide in to. The collared end attaches to the scope end by the threaded ring and the original diagonal just slide into that and attaches by the two thumb screws. There are three different threads on the end the diagonal slide in that are not used, 2 internal and an external. I assume that the largest of the internal ones is for a filter perhaps, but what is the slightly smaller thread for? The external thread I am assuming is so you can use a screw on diagonal? Excuse the lack of depth of field, I was in a hurry!

AP (astrophotography) is another beast LOL
I have been a visual guy for 52 years, I have never messed with AP.

As long as your diagonal looks like the ones I posted you will be fine.

Maybe one of the AP guys/gals could enlighten us...

I'll tell you what, I have the Celestron version of your scope, I will drag it out this weekend and look at mine.

Great! There were some breaks in the clouds last night, we did not get to see anything exciting but I was sort of amazed at how many more specks of star light you can see looking through a telescope than you can just looking at the same place without. You have to ask yourself "why" all this stuff is out there.

The Aputura is made by GSO, and the Orion is made by Synta (Synta makes Skywatcher and Celestron.

Both the same price, and probably the same quality.

I opted for the Orion one, but with a twist lock.
