M101 (Pinwheel Galaxy)

#1

Post by STEVE333 »

This is now two nights of data on this fairly dim galaxy. I have rather severe gradients in the raw data, because of a neighbors bright backyard lights, which makes processing a challenge!

I tripped in the dark after setup and managed to fall over a large landscape boulder and bang into the corner of a cement block wall - OUCH!! My sweetie wasn't happy!!! A little sore this morning, but, OK. Don't want to do that again!!!!!!! I didn't realize that AP was so dangerous :confusion-seeingstars:

Nice capture considering the challenge. Glad you are OK. I had some bad encounters with decorative boulders myself.

Another fine EAA image Steve.

Glad your tumble was not more serious. I never go out to check on things without my trusty red torch! Hope your bruises fade quickly.

Thanks Graeme - As a result of the tumble I've instituted a new procedure for setup (and takedown).
1. Turn on the outside lights (front or backyard).
2. Perform all setup with outside lights on ON.
3. Start image taking with outside lights still ON!!!
4. Go into the house and turn off outside lights.

I reverse the process for takedown. I may lose a couple of images at the beginning and the end, but, a small price to pay for not taking another tumble!!! We are about to go on a cruise to Alaska and I almost messed that up!! Being 83 you would think I should have realized I need to be more careful ;)

I translated it wrong.
This was supposed to mean exposure time and equipment used.
sorry Steve.

Great Steve. Now you will be getting calls from the insurance company wanting to come into your house to nail down all the area rugs! Hope you heal quickly. Oh, and great job on M101.

Ha ha ha! My Sweetie wasn't happy about me being out there in the dark with the AP setup before I tripped and fell. Needless to say, she is even more concerned about it now. However, my new approach with all the lights on has made her feel better about it. I'm so lucky to have someone who cares!!

Thanks for the kind words and wishes.
