Cannot change + to - in Dec.

I have a Meade LS8 And I am having problems when entering RA & Dec co-ordinates . The RA goes in fine but I cannot change the + to - when entering Dec. The manual says to use the "Scroll" buttons to change this , but no matter how I try, I cannot get it to work. I know the LS 8 can be problematical , but this is the only problem I have been unable to solve,
Can any LS8 users (if there are any out there ) give me some idea on how to solve this problem

After a lot of experimentation I have finally solved the problem . By pushing the up or down scroll keys it selects + or - BUT as the +and - are shown as one item one above the other it does not show exactly which symbol has been selected, so it is up for +'and down for - and it works.
