Arp 229

#1

Post by dcrowson »

Arp 229 consists of NGC 507 (UGC 938, PGC 5098 , VV 207/a and others), the large lenticular galaxy with a shell-like appearance just below center and NGC 508 (UGC 939, PGC 5099, VV 207b and others), the elliptical above it. Part of Arp’s ‘Galaxies with concentric ring’ class, both are located approximately 210 million light-years away in Pisces. There are twenty more galaxies in the NGC 507 group. See the annotated image for others that fit in my field of view.
