Arp 229 consists of
NGC 507 (UGC 938, PGC 5098 , VV 207/a and others), the large lenticular galaxy with a shell-like appearance just below center and
NGC 508 (UGC 939, PGC 5099, VV 207b and others), the elliptical above it. Part of Arp’s ‘Galaxies with concentric ring’ class, both are located approximately 210 million light-years away in Pisces. There are twenty more galaxies in the
NGC 507 group. See the annotated image for others that fit in my field of view.
Luminance – 24x600s – 240 minutes – binned 1x1
RGB – 8x300s – 40 minutes each – binned 2x2
360 minutes total exposure – 6 hours
Imaged November 18th, 19th and 20th and December 3rd, 2020 from Dark Sky New Mexico at Rancho Hidalgo (Animas, New Mexico) with a SBIG STF-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT12RCT at
f/8 2432mm.
