M83 first try with PI trail license VS APP

#1

Post by Ben Cartwright SASS »

I just downloaded my trial license of Pixinsight this morning (PI) and also downloaded a free script for processing SLOOH LRGB images - AUTOINTEGRATE

it is a once click processor. I ran it against the same files that I ran through Astro Pixel Processor and then did a quick one click histogram stretch, total clicks about 3, and maybe 10 minutes time to run. VS 90 minutes with APP. In APP spent about an hour playing with the colors and saturation etc.
I am really impressed with the results I got for a one click solution. I am sure I can do better as I learn how to use PI but for a first try I am blown away, much better than when I tried it a year ago I also have more data sets. I have a feeling I will be buying PI

Here is the file from PI and then below it the file from APP, both using the exact same subs.

PI really brings out the emission regions. OTOH, APP shows nice detail in the bar. Interesting that the processing time is so different.

I have RGB data from a One Click shot now; might try playing with it with a free version of something. Still just sticking my toe in the water on this stuff.
