This is my first attempt at processing any thing other than OSC stuff. Man, this is a whole different world.

I tried all kinds of different data combinations and processing methods and they all looked like a train wreck.LOL.

Finally tried Sii as red, HA as green and Oiii as blue. Loaded this into startools 1.6 and all I did was auto dev, wipe, global redo, color, denoise, made a star mask and used the shrink module to shrink the stars and save the image.

Don't get the idea I'm proud of this image, I just thought I'd post it anyway. It sure was fun trying.

Thanks Carole for letting us use your data.

It's been interesting to see the different versions produced of my data. Also I am happy that a number of your have said it has been a useful learning exercise.
very nice i like the last one, chft pallet ?
Hi Yobbo, thanks, but chft pallet is a new one on me, what does that stand for?

It was also hubble palette with RGB stars added but I did a lot of colour manipulation to get the resulting colour, mainly because there was an image that I admired that I was trying to emulate.

Carole

PS: I looked it up, CFHT is Ha-Red OIII-Green SII-Blue. So no it wasn't that, where on earth does CFHT come from, I'd just call that HOS? So I learnt something new too.

Talking about colour palettes, I am sure most of you know you can do bicolour, HOO, but I once did an image HSS as there was a lot of Sii but no Oiii at all, this was the California Nebula.

Thanks Kathy for the explanation, but to be honest, that seems a bit bizarre to name a colour palette after a telescope. But then Hubble palette is also named after a telescope, so I'll shut up. Lol

That's it for the July AP Processing Challenge!

I would like to thank Carole for the excellent NB data which for quite a few of us was the first time we have had an opportunity to play with. I learnt a lot from this one.

There is no August challenge, the next one is AP Processing Challenge No. 5, starting today, which will be a chance to have a go a the Iris Nebula with data submitted by bobharmony. I look forward to seeing you there.

If anyone would like to submit some data for a future challenge please send an email with a cloud storage download link to tssapchallenge@theskysearchers.com

Stay safe.

Regards

Graeme
