Re: Keeping Eyepieces Warm and Dew/Frost-free

I have a nice eyepiece box my dad gave me for Christmas last year that has heated drawers in it. I plug it into my dew controller. It holds all of my accessories. It's not the cheapest option but I do enjoy it. https://www.wood-wonders.com/eyepiece/

Re: That Tiny Dot? It’s the 2019 Transit of Mercury

The Nature Club at the school I work at was going to observe it during the school day. Unfortunately, the solar filter didn't show up in time but we saw it online.

Re: What Is The Dumbest Thing You Did As An Astronomy Hobbyist?

When my Obsession was still pretty new, I hooked the handles up the wrong way and dumped the entire mirror box off of the rocker box. This cracked the encoder in the base. Luckily Charlie at Markless Astronomics can fix these things and I was back in business. Memory of this still haunts me.

I hope you are feeling better and on the mend.

Your report was excellent! As a novice, I will look to it to improve my own reports and postings.

Re: M45 The Pleiades and out reach

Jerry, first of all, nice image of M45! It sounds like you've spent a lot of time with your son in law and educating him on the set up of the equipment. It is nice having family members who are interested in the hobby. I am fortunate to have a wife and 10 year old and 11 year old stepsons who enjoy ...

Alan, thank you for bringing over this most excellent article! I agree that it is a classic and it really helped me early in my not too long ago start in DSO hunting.

Re: Patrick's November Observation Reports

A few quick hours logged this evening from around 1730-2000. I was not able to log any new Messier objects but I did get to revisit some old ones I last saw with the Zhumell 10. Williamsburg is a Bortle 5, whereas Gloucester is a class 4 so the sky is a bit lighter. Also, I have more trees to conten...

Re: Patrick's November Observation Reports

It was a fun evening. It’s funny how most folks have only experienced small dept store scopes and when they see objects through a decent sized scope, their whole perception changes.

Patrick's November Observation Reports

11/2/2019-Did an evening of observing from home. Good friends of ours, Terri and Steve came over from Norfolk. We grilled out and lit a fire in the fire pit. I had the Obsession set up earlier to have everything dialed in. The DSC required a reboot to get it to align correctly. I'm not sure what was...

Welcome! I understand where you're coming from with the long commutes. Luckily, I got married earlier in the year and my long commute became a 10 minute one. It makes all of the difference.

That's great! I look forward to adding to the list. If I counted correctly, I have 50 of them observed so far. The weekend looks promising so maybe I'll catch a break.

Virginia amateur saying hello!

Hello! I'd like to first thank Gabby76 from over at Astronomy Forum for alerting me to this new website. They say when you snooze you lose and it's been so long since I posted on the old webpage that I didn't catch on to the new one. So, thanks again Gabby! So, a little about me. My name is Patrick ...
