Re: Yet another newbie needs help post!

To determine if an object will fit in the camera field of view (FOV), there are two parts to that equation: 1) the focal length (FL) of the telescope and 2) the size of the camera sensor. If you are using a DSLR for imaging then its sensor is big enough to capture all of M31 and M42 and M45 using a ...

Re: Mounts Are Like Telescopes

Oh Rob, It is so much more pervasive than that! Buying any new equipment is a given for days of cloud cover this extends to even the set screws in your diagonal. Any repair performed on your Astro gear will generate days of cloud cover. AND If you even think about doing a repair on the shelf that ho...

Re: Shunning the Frumious Bandersnatch

Bryan, The mount doth gyre and gimble in the wabe. That is exactly what my mount does. I don't have a remedy yet. But nice images though. Remembering your days from long ago and how you pooh-poohed the idea of AP, I'm siding towards a new nickname of Mr. Moon for you, because apparently you have mas...

Re: New Astro Image Processing PC - Wow!

That is so cool Jim,

I used to build (assemble) desktops as a hobby many years ago. I found that it was not that difficult and you could build a great machine for not a lot of money.

Can't wait to see what you can process now.

Sorry Graeme,

These software issues, like the ones you're having, cause the greatest amounts of hair-loss for me.

Yes, and with nice round, fairly unbloated, in-focus stars. BTW, I like the diffraction spikes, always have.

PS, I don't mean to nitpick, but lately your images are showing less color. Is this a conscious choice?

Wow Jim,

For a "very quick crappy image", that's a pretty spectacular image. Can't wait to see what happens when you have more time.

Re: Nikon DS3500

Congrats on the purchase. I know you will enjoy this camera and it should take awesome images for you. Another tidbit for you, they actually make small Bahtinov masks for camera lenses. Get one, they're inexpensive. Focus especially on a wide-angle lens is both critical and difficult to achieve. Che...

Yup, you got a "red" side and a "not red" side. In the past, we would almost always attribute this to amp glow, but nowadays, I don't know anymore. Following this thread closely.

Sorry you're having issues,

I'm still looking for the Rose of Alabama in that excellent image.

It sounds like observing with you would be a fun experience. If for no other reason than to hear the monologue that goes along with the evenings events.

Nicely done,
