Re: Explore scientific refractors

Tomcat, did you check collimation of your 8se? I had many refractors over the years from 80mm to 150mm, and none of them was better on planets than my 8" SCT. If you want sharper views you should consider slow F10-13, or APO/ED refractors. Tomcat, did you check collimation of your 8se? I had many r...

Re: Explore scientific refractors

For planets and the moon I would go with the ED102. It is a f/9 with ED glass, so no violet color at high powers. I like the AR152 also, but with a 90mm aperture mask to cut down on the violet color. However, I read that some AR152s have very little to no violet color at around 200 magnification.

Dew and Your Binoculars

I have seen images of binoculars with dew shields. These shields are on the front lenses. What do you do about dew on binocular fixed/permanent eyepieces? Thanks to you all.

It's not a forever product. Say it last a year or 2. You're only out $60.

Anybody Try This For Energy?

Thinking about buying a Stanley 1000/500 Amp 12v Jump Starter. Need it to run my portable hair dryer for occasional dew on my binoculars. What is your opinion on this starter and others that might be better at a lower cost? https://www.walmart.com/ip/STANLEY-1000-500-Amp-12V-Jump-Starter-with-LED-Li...

Re: Astronomy Binoculars for Avid Backpacker

What ever you get make sure the eye relief is 18mm or greater. I can only enjoy binoculars with a tripod. My 7x50 need a tripod for steady and relaxed views. Perhaps you can strap it on the side of your gear bag. You need a tripod. https://www.amazon.com/Magnus-VT-350-Video-Tripod-Fluid/dp/B00LW7SFO...

Re: NASA puts a price on a 2024 Moon landing—$35 billion

We have already been to the moon. How about $35 billion for low cost housing. Let the private sector with tax breaks try for another trip to the moon. I bet the private sector could do it for far less than $35 billion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_UZyT0nShI https://parade.com/643064/beckyhughes...
