9-19-2023 TSS Visual Report of the Day.

"Gate Crashing the OAS Deep Sky Camp"

Today's featured report is an omnibus one about a dark sky camping experience enjoyed by Graeme1858 (Graeme). Just getting out under the stars without the hassle of light pollution at home can be its own reward. Graeme was able to capture some images and also spend some time looking around the sky with binoculars and the naked eye. The Andromeda Galaxy presents itself in almost a completely different way in binos under a dark sky - it is not just a washed out halo but a glorious object extending over several degrees.

And the joy of being able to see the outline of faintish constellations is delightful. One can actually see how the ancients were able to create objects like Capricornus or Aquarius for example out of obscure groupings of stars. All in all Graeme had a great astronomical adventure and a rewarding time with friends and the sights...congratulations Graeme on the VROD award for the day for your fun star party report!
