7-8-2022 TSS Visual Report of the Day.

"Observing Report for 30 June 2022 - successful until it wasn't"

Today's featured report, as we catch up on a hiatus over the last 48 hours, is another superb entry from KT4HX (Alan) as he managed to confirm an earlier observation of Palomar 5, a 12th magnitude, 8.9 arc minute object of low surface brightness. The Palomars, named after the famed Hale telescope on Mt. Palomar in California, were originally discovered through analysis of photographic plates from the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS) during the 1950's carried out by Edwin Hubble and George Abell, among others. Alan also managed to observe a nice selection of galaxies through his 17.5" scope. Hopefully his report will inspire others to go after the elusive Palomars, particularly if one has dark skies and 10" or more of aperture. Congratulations Alan on a great report and on winning the VROD for the day, in spite of the clouds that spoiled the session after a couple of hours.
