"I Have an Observing Buddy: Astronomy Report 7/22/2022"

Today's featured report comes from jrkirkham (Rob) who fairly recently added a firepit to the accoutrements at his observatory. Accompanied by his friend Chris, a retired airline pilot, he spent some time by the fire with him. Normally they both stare up at the sky with binoculars, this time he brought a 102mm f/10 refractor. After Chris had turned in for the night, Rob snapped some photos of M13. Going to bed, he set up an alarm clock for 4 am so he could get up and see the occultation of Ganymede by Jupiter. Putting the power at 252x the occultation started at 4:35 pm. Staring at the planet, he was able to catch Ganymede looking like a bump pn the edge of the planet. Pretty exciting stuff!
