"Ursa Major Galaxies"

Well the Summer Solstice is upon us meaning we are enjoying the longest day of the year and correspondingly, the shortest nights. As astronomers we can look forward to ever increasing periods of darkness until December 21st. With that said, today we feature a report from Bigzmey (Andrey) who trekked to the Anza Desert for some galaxy hunting. Well positioned in the evening sky is the Great Bear. Unbeknownst to many folks it's not just a dipper asterism but home to bushels of galaxies. Andrey successfully observed many of the fainter ones by increasing the power to improve contrast and shrink the exit pupil using his Celestron Edge 9.25" scope. Follow along and enjoy his descriptions of what he observed. Congratulations Andrey on a great night and on winning the VROD on this first day of summer!
