"Cancer and Leo Minor Galaxies"

Today in the late afternoon we feature an excellent report by bigzmey (Andrey) probing the abovementioned constellations for galactic targets. Starting with Cancer and then proceeding into Leo Minor he completed an excellent haul. In fact, he was able to spot the magnitude 15.5 galaxy NGC 2843 which is only 24" x 12" arc seconds in diameter, and therefore quite small. As he notes, observing through his Celestron 9.25" Edge SCT, he had to separate it from a 12.6 magnitude star only 20 arc seconds away. This was challenging but perhaps made a bit easier by the object's compact nature and slightly higher surface brightness.

Topping off the evening and closing up shop around midnight from his Anza location, he gathered 12 additional galaxies in Leo Minor after his views of the Cancer galaxies and the Beehive open cluster. All in all a tremendous evening and well worth the VROD for 5/18/2023. Congratulations Andrey on the award.
