VROD

4-9-2024 TSS Visual Report of the Day.

by helicon

"6 April 2024"

Today's featured report comes from Mike Q.

In this session, he compares views between his 102mm scope and his Orion 16" Dob. NGC 2362 was one of his targets, a cluster of a couple of dozen stars. In the 4" the center was hazy. In the 16" all the stars were resolved, except for a less noticeable patch of haziness.

In the Orion Nebula, the 102mm revealed 5 stars in the Trapezium whereas the 16" yielded 9. He also managed a glimpse of the Horsehead Nebula, never an easy object.

Turning to M13, he remarks that the 102mm yielded an impressive view whereas in the 16" the view was simply unforgettable. He capped off the night with a tour of galaxies. As a final note, he points out that the 16" was well collimated and had something to so with his successes that evening. Congratulations Mike on winning the VROD for the day.
