2-8-2023 TSS Visual Report of the Day.

by helicon

"Sketch of Comet C/2022 E3, its track in two hours time"

Today's featured report consists of observations in Orion followed by views of the popular comet we have been watching by John Baars. Using his 102 mm f/5 scope he caught the comet at 20x and then ramped up to 70x. Showing a faintish but distinct center the rest of the comet represented a hazy glow. Now that it is present in Auriga it is not too far from several bright stars which make it easier to see than when it was traversing Camelopardalis. In addition to his report, John completed two amazing sketches of the comet incuding how much it moved over a two hour period, which is quite significant. Congratulations John on the superb report and sketches and a well-deserved VROD win for the day!
