2-17-2025 TSS Visual Report of the Day.

by helicon

"Jupiter, Mars, the Pup. February 16th 2025"

Today's featured report from John Baars is an inimitable example of excellent work at both the eyepiece and the sketchpad. Firstly John describes his view of Mars and its major features - most of which were visible on this night through his temperature adapted 120mm refractor.

Secondly, Jupiter offered up some of its riches and also formed a fine sketch subject. Sirius A and Sirius B or the "pup" were next. Here he describes his attempt to view the pup through the intense glow and scintillations of Sirius and managed to catch it at moments of superb seeing. Finally, with Rigel he was able to split its companion star quite easily, at least for the experienced observer.

Congratulations John on an excellent report and for relating the details of the evening to us. The VROD for today (2-17-2025) is yours!
