2-10-2024 TSS Visual Report of the Day.

by helicon

"Observing Report for 04 February 2024 - the twins, a crab and even a monkey's head!"

Today we highlight an exceptional report by KT4HX (Alan) who goes after a bevy of constellations in pursuit of galaxies, open clusters, and nebulae. The constellations included Gemini, Orion (one object), and Cancer. Nabbing even NGC 2175, the Monkey's Head Nebulae - always a challenge visually, including an embedded knot within the nebula (NGC 2174), he also was successful with the distant and difficult NGC 2158 just outside of M35, an open cluster with some central condensation but with several individual members available as sparklers in large aperture amateur scopes.

Moving back into Gemini and then into Cancer he captured almost an innumerable number of galaxies for a given night, mostly fainter than 12th magnitude and also, most of the them new to him, which just shows the scale and scope of the New General Catalogue.

All in all a fabulous night and the recipient of the VROD for the day for two consecutive sessions!
