"A Short Report with a Mars Finale"

We're getting closer to Mars' upcoming opposition in December and today the Wave Catcher (Steve) got a jump on all of us by viewing the red planet as part of his deep sky and planetary session through his AT80mm scope. Blessed by excellent seeing at home he was able to increase the power on Mars to over 200x while still being able to resolve some features including a darkish patch in the southeast quadrant. WIth Jupiter the belts were obvious, the moons and similarly he was able to increase the power to improve the detail. Congratulations Steve on achieving the VROD award for the day!
