"Night of the comet"

Meteor showers can be highly anticipated events and if one can get out to darker skies than the City they can be highly engaging or even spectacular. In this vein Unitron48 (Dave) was able to get out with a group at their observatory and view the Orionid shower, so named because the point of origin or radiant point is located in that constellation. Staying up late, fueled by cookies and coffee Dave and his group counted 100 meteors. Interestingly the progenitor of the Orionids is Halley's comet which isn't due back in our skies until most of us have passed on. Dave also relates his observing session from 1986 when he saw the comet along with some other folks through his 60mm f/15 Unitron scope. Congratulations Dave on winning the VROD for the day!
